HOPE FOR THE LOST
Hello, my name is Aaliyah Stewart. My freshman year of high school, I started a 501C3 foundation in honor of my brothers Anthony S.White Jr.and James Anderson who were killed due to senseless gun violence. The ASW Foundation (Hope for the Lost) was started in December 2014. The foundation began by awarding scholarships to two seniors, Brianna Smith and Christian Espino. Both students had to meet the requirements which included writing an essay stating how they would stop the violence in their community. While working on the foundation I started the movement #IAMTHEM which means I am my youth letting them know no matter what you may go through in life or where you may come from, you always have potential. I was able to speak to the sophomore and juniors May 1st, 2015 at Thea Bowman Leadership Academy in Gary, Indiana encouraging them to keep believing in themselves. I was also able to accomplish a Stop the Violence Skating Party which was held on April 3rd, 2015 at Glenwood Skating Rink in Glenwood, IL, as well as a Stop the Violence Banquet which was held on May 17th, 2015 at the Chateau Banquet Hall in Merrillville, Indiana. I participated in the Gary Fourth Of July parade for “Uplifting Gary”. On September 5th, 2015 I held #IAMTHEM Peace Walk in Gary. My purpose behind the walk was to bring everyone together; especially those mothers that had lost their children due to gun violence I wanted them to stand united together. October 5th, 2015 I was featured on the front page of The Times Newspaper. I was interviewed as a guest star on Windy City Live October 23rd, 2015. During my interview I spoke of my goals for the foundation such as awarding scholarships and promoting non-violence. On December 21st, 2015 I became the president of Merrillville high school S.A.V.E Chapter (Students Against Violence Everywhere). On April 21st,2017 I became the President of the Intergenerational program at SouthShore Nursing Home.On March 28,2018 I accepted the position as board member for the Women's Commission of Gary. On August 11,2018 I opened my very own Herbalife Nutrition Store. On February 23,2019 I won WDB Marketing Young Entrepreneur of the year award. In the month of February I decided to close my store to focus on my youth center coming June of 2020.
